    Christmas Dinner 2024

The Christmas Dinner is the highlight event of the Seven Fountains Scholarship Fund. Since 2004, the Seven Fountains Center has proudly hosted this special gathering. This year marked the 25th anniversary of the Scholarship Fund, and we had planned for an outdoor celebration. Unfortunately, due to unexpected rain, we had to move indoors to the hall. Though the smaller space created some challenges, the event was filled with joy and energy. As one participant remarked, “While I think all of us would have preferred a night in the garden under the stars, the coziness of the alternative venue made conversation with people I did not know before very easy.”

The primary purpose of this event is to raise funds to support underprivileged students. Entirely organized by volunteers, all proceeds from the dinner go directly to helping children who might otherwise never have the chance to obtain an education. This year, 941 needy students are relying on our support.

On behalf of the Scholarship Fund team, I (Fr. Dzung Pham, S.J.) and the sponsored children extend our heartfelt gratitude for your generous support over the many years. Your kindness and dedication continue to make a transformative impact in the lives of so many.

    Yearly Report 2024

This year, from March 4 to March 13, 2024, we conducted our annual survey trip. Reflecting on last year’s experience, we scheduled the trip during the school term, ensuring that all students were still in school. This allowed us to meet with nearly all our sponsored students, gather them in one place, listen to their stories, and introduce them to the Scholarship Fund program.

Many of the students, while receiving funds, were unaware of the program’s broader mission and the generous donors behind it. They only recognized the local partners who delivered cash or purchased items for them. During this trip, we emphasized the importance of understanding the Scholarship Fund program and cultivating gratitude for the support they receive from many kind-hearted people.

We also met with our local partners to review their reports on the circumstances of underprivileged students and the utilization of funds for both the previous and upcoming academic years.

The report from this trip includes numerous photos to provide our sponsors with a clearer view of the students they support and how their contributions are shaping joyful and promising futures for these young individuals.

We are deeply grateful to our sponsors and collaborators for their continued support in making these efforts impactful and meaningful.

    Christmas Dinner 2023

On December 16, Father Dzung and the collaborators of the Seven Fountains Scholarship Fund organized a Christmas Charity Party in the front garden of the Seven Fountains Spirituality Center. The event was a resounding success, with approximately 480 attendees joining in the celebration.

All proceeds from this joyful evening will go towards supporting poor students in four Northern provinces of Thailand—Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Mae Hong Son, and Tak—as well as students in the border areas of Myanmar.

The event was made possible by the contributions of many generous supporters who provided specialties for the buffet, baked goods for sale, items for the silent auction, and door prizes, creating a warm and festive atmosphere for all who attended.

The Christmas Charity Dinner stands out as the signature program under the name of the Seven Fountains Scholarship Fund. Unlike the typical interactions with sponsors—most of which are conducted through email and money transfers—this event offers a rare opportunity for direct connection, joy, and community sharing among the sponsors, collaborators, and beneficiaries.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who contributed to the success of this meaningful celebration. Your generosity and participation are making a transformative difference in the lives of so many students. May this spirit of giving and joy continue to flourish.

    Yearly Report 2023

This year 2023, we conducted our survey trip between the end of March and the beginning of April. Unfortunately, this period coincided with the long summer holiday in the Thai education system, meaning most school students were on break. As a result, we only had the opportunity to meet and take photos with a few of our sponsored students.

During the trip, we primarily met with our local collaborators, who provided reports on the situations of the underprivileged students and detailed how the scholarship funds were utilized in the previous academic year. They also shared plans for the upcoming academic year. These reports included photos from each place we visited, offering our sponsors a glimpse into the lives of the students they support. This documentation helps sponsors understand how their generosity continues to bring joy and brighter futures to these students.

    Looking Ahead

For next year, we plan to schedule the survey trip at the beginning of March, just a few weeks before the summer holiday begins. This timing will allow us to meet most of our sponsored students while they are still in school.

Thank you to all our sponsors and collaborators for your continued support in making these efforts possible!

Pham Ngo Hoang Dung, known to all as Dzung, is a young Vietnamese Jesuit priest who committed himself to the Region of Thailand. Before his ordination, he had already done three years of “regency” or involvement in the Jesuits’ apostolic work and community life in Thailand. He returned last autumn to be the university chaplain for the students in Northern Thailand. With his return to Thailand, Fr. Paul Pollock has handed the management of the Sponsorship Fund Project over to Dzung.

On behalf of our student group, I would like to express our heartfelt gratitude for your generous support. All of us come from remote villages, and due to financial hardships, our parents could not fully provide for our university expenses. That’s why we rely on the kindness of generous people like you. Truly, you are a gift to us.

The only way we can give back is through our prayers. May God bless you and grant you and your families good health and happiness. Especially during this Christmas season, may the Infant Jesus dwell in your hearts and bring peace to your families.

    Thank you so much!

The “Our Students” Education Sponsorship Program at Seven Fountains seeks to remove financial barriers from students in the mountain villages of Northern Thailand which hold back children from receiving an education. The Primary, Secondary, and University aged children and youth that our sponsorship program assists, most of whom are from minority ethnic backgrounds, struggle to pay for essentials school items not subsidized by the government. Items such as their school uniform, art and craft supplies, fuel and transportation back and forth to school, and boarding house fees for those whose village is too far away for daily travel to school can be too much for a family to pay for. Without assistance, these families will often opt-out of sending their child to school.

For the 2022-3 academic year which is starting in just a few weeks, we have 834 students identified as needing assistance. Our budget for meeting their need is 2,843,000 baht.

    Yearly Report 2017

This year, 2017, marks the first time our Scholarship Fund conducted a comprehensive survey of the sponsored students’ villages and schools. Brother Dzung and his team traveled extensively to nearly every village and school to personally meet the students and learn more about their lives and education.

Through this survey, we identified a total of 654 students listed in the Scholarship Fund. However, during our visits, we discovered that 34 students were either no longer studying, missing, or their names were nonexistent. These names have been removed from the list to ensure accurate reporting and efficient allocation of funds.

    Hostel Support

Four hostels are managed under the care of the Jesuits at Seven Fountains Center:

         1. Baan Kaad Hostel

         2. Maelamoo [St. Paul Hostel]

         3. Seven Fountains Boys’ Hostel

         4. Seven Fountains Girls’ Hostel

Scholarship funds for students residing in these hostels are not distributed individually. Instead, the funds are pooled to cover overall expenses, including food, utilities (electricity and water), repairs, and salaries for caretakers, such as those managing Baan Kaad Hostel.

  • Christmas Dinner 2007

    Christmas Dinner 2007

This year, our annual dinner featured baked goods sales, donated gift items, greeting card sales, and the opportunity for direct sponsorship of individual students for one or more years. The evening was made even more special by performances from both our sponsors and sponsored students, showcasing their talents and gratitude.

Throughout the year, many people who learned about the Scholarship Fund generously contributed. Some chose to “adopt” a student, committing to support their education for several years, helping to secure their future.

Thank you all for your kindness and unwavering generosity. Your support continues to make a transformative impact on the lives of so many.
